God loves us regardless of whether we havent cherished him.  God needs us to know him.  The Bible says God is working in everybodys life. "So they should look for the Lord, with the expectation that they may grab for Himself and track down Him, however He isnt a long way from every single one of us." (Acts 17:27) What a relationship with God implies is that we are getting interchanges from God about himself both through his promise and through history. He comes to us in Jesus Christ, in his educating, in his cross, in his messengers, through his promise, and he is addressing us. Whats more his talking is made indispensable to us by the current presence of the Holy Spirit who stays inside us. That is a large portion of the relationship.
